High Volume Applications:  Catalog and Auction Image Preparation   (Back)

Quick ePicsTM is a true "What You See Is What You Get" (WYSIWYG) batch image editor and image optimizer. It was originally designed for online Auctions and Catalogs, consequently it excels at high volume image processing.

If you're a serious seller on eBay, U-1.ca, or any of the other online auctions, then you know image preparation is an extremely time consuming task. Producing images for your auctions can take a large part of your day, and using the wrong image editor can significantly slow you down. Because Quick ePics is specifically designed and optimized for preparing auction pictures, it dramatically reduces the time required to produce them. For many sellers, Quick ePics pays for itself the very first time it is used. (See Note below for estimated savings.)

Batch Image Editing with Finesse:

Quick ePics saves you time by editing images in batches. But unlike traditional batch image editors, Quick ePics gives you complete "What You See Is What You Get" (WYSIWYG) control over each and every image in the batch.

A typical Quick ePics batch image editing session proceeds as follows:

  1. You start a batch using the Open Batch dialog to select one or more images. This dialog displays image properties and an image preview to facilitate the batch selection process. If you select only one image, Quick ePics behaves like a single image editor. (View Open Batch Dialog)

  2. Once a batch is opened it can be processed Manually or Automatically:

Manual (WYSIWYG) batch image processing is performed one image at a time using the navigation bar. After making changes to the displayed image, a single mouse click lets you move forward or backwards in the batch. Any changes you make are automatically saved as you navigate between images. Default settings that you specify before or after opening a batch, are automatically applied to each image. Consequently, many images in a batch will require no manual changes at all. (View Manual Processing)

Automatic batch image processing, processes all images at once. Once execution begins, it continues until it is canceled or completes, and a status bar is displayed to let you watch the progress. Automatic processing can be initiated from any image in a batch. The application executes only the unprocessed images, leaving your manual edits intact. Further manual batch image processing can be performed once auto execution completes. The application remembers the changes you make for all images in the batch, so you can always return to previously processed images to make further changes. (View Automatic Processing) (View Batch Execution Menu)

  3. If you need hard copy, Quick ePics can print your images individually or in batch. Also, you can review batch summary statistics to track average file size, total file size and total file size savings.

Whether processing images Manually or Automatically, Quick ePics is extremely fast. Using automatic mode, you can process 200 to 300 images in less than a minute. But even in manual mode, Quick ePics is up to 90% faster than standard single image editors. (Results based on 200 MHz Pentium with 64MB RAM.)

Note:  The amount of time you save by switching to Quick ePics depends on the image editor you currently use. But many users save 1 hour for every 25 to 30 images they process (This includes image optimization, image resizing, cropping, auto cropping, rotation, mirroring, automatic image renaming, and color, contrast, and brightness adjustments.) If you process 100 images per week you could save approximately 208 hours per year (or 5.2 work weeks). (If you average 4 images per auction, then you'll save about an hour each time you post 6 new auctions.) If you're skeptical, try it for a couple weeks to see for yourself.

True WYSIWYG Image Optimization:

Quick ePics is not just about saving time for you, it is also about saving time for your customers. That's because Quick ePics automatically performs image optimization as you process your images. Using Quick ePics your images can actually download up to 98% faster.

Not all auction users have high speed connections to the Internet. So optimizing image compression is very important. Images which are not optimized, or which are improperly optimized, have larger than necessary files sizes, which can make your auctions display slowly. Auctions that display slowly can reduce your sales, since prospective customers may be unwilling to wait for them to fully displayed. (Note: This is especially important for sellers who publish multiple images per auction.)

To assure fast auctions, your image file sizes should be individually optimized. No two images compress the same, so there is no single image compression level optimal for all. In fact, any compression level which works for all images, is almost certain to be optimal for none. If you are a seller that uses a single compression setting, then most if not all of your image file sizes are larger than they need to be.

Most auction sellers do not optimize image compression, because the most popular image editors make it very difficult to do. With these editors, the type and amount of compression is not specified until the image is saved, and usually there is no convenient or efficient way to preview or adjust the end result. As a consequence, most sellers accept larger un-optimized images, for the simplicity of using their editor's compression defaults. (Also, many entry level image editors provide no means to do image optimization.)

Quick ePics makes image optimization easy. It uses a slider bar to provide true "What You See Is What You Get" (WYSIWYG) image compression. The slider bar allows you to quickly select between 127 different compression levels to find the optimal setting for each image. As you drag the slider bar the image is immediately updated so you can see the results. Also, file size, file size savings, and estimated load times are displayed and dynamically recalculated as the image compression level is changed. There is even a Peek button, to view the image with and without compression. And if you need even greater control, an optional Side-By-Side image optimizer is available, which displays the before and after images side by side, as compression is performed. (View Side-By-Side Dialog)

Using Quick ePics to perform image optimization, can dramatically speed up your auctions. Best of all, the time your customers save waiting on your images, can be spent viewing more of your auctions. (Quick ePics' image optimizer algorithms produce very small file sizes.)

Automatic Batch Image Renaming:

If you own a digital camera then you've experience the frustration of meaningless filenames. Its easy to loose track of your pictures when they have names like DSCN0101, DSCN0102, DSCN0103, etc.. If you take lots of pictures then you also know it can take hours to manually rename them.

Quick ePics makes batch image renaming easy. It allows you to automatically rename your image files to give them more meaningful names. Names such as DSCN0101, DSCN0102, and DSCN0103 can automatically be rename to FallCollection1, FallCollection2, and FallCollection3, or any other name of your choosing. Quick ePics also lets you manually rename your images as you edit them.

No More Undo's and Reloads:

We all occasionally make mistakes or change our mind, but most image editors are very unforgiving. They often require image reloads or repeated undo's, even for a single change or mistake. These editors can significantly slow you down. Image collections that should take minutes to prepare, can end up taking hours.

Quick ePics solves the Undo and Reload problem. It lets you experiment freely, making virtually unlimited changes without any undo's or reloads. Quick ePics accomplishes this by remembering each change you make. Then when undo's or reloads are necessary, it performs them automatically in the background -- you aren't even aware they are happening. This one feature alone can save you hours when editing large picture sets. It allow you to focus on the task at hand, which is getting your images exactly the way you want them.

Only the Features You Need:

Lets face it, preparing auction images isn't high art. In fact taking artistic license with your auction pictures is deceptive and can lead to negative feed back. So if your editing needs are basic, why use a complex image editor with hundreds of features you never use? These features clutter the user interface and inevitably slow you down.

Quick ePics was designed from the beginning for high volume auction and catalog imaging. It is not intended for portrait or artistic photography, nor for graphic arts. It doesn't try to be a "do it all" image editor. But it does include all the features you need for preparing product images for web presentation. This design may not excite the artistic community, but it will save serious auction and catalog sellers lots of valuable time.

Great For Online Catalogs:

The Quick ePics batch image editor makes catalog imaging easy. It can automatically create companion thumbnail images, and can apply standard catalog settings to all images in a batch. Also, with Quick ePics image renaming and jpeg format conversion are a snap. When batches are process automatically, 200 to 300 hundred images can be processed in less than a minute.
